Art Challenges

At regular intervals Maggie our chair sets us a "challenge" to paint. We are given a subject to interpret in our own way. The entries are not judged

Some of our previous challenges have included - a self portrait, landscape from a photo, tulips and daffodils, still life, and a painting to fit the banner of our Facebook page.

Recent challenges include :- A painting in the style of Clarice Cliff and a water colour using the three primary colours

To see past challenges see below:- go to Activities, Art Challenges and select from the drop-down

The Chairs Challenge

Our March 2025 Challenge

Chairman's Painting Challenge for March
I thought we'd start the year with a relatively simple challenge - Paint a picture using only ONE colour on a white background. This means NO white or black to lighten or darken the colour, just use the whiteness of the background & thinner paint for light & more layers / thicker paint to create darks.
ONE colour, any medium, subject of your choice, any size within reason.
Open to members & non members, one entry per person. Bring your entries to the 4th March demonstration.
No prizes, just interesting to see what everyone does.
There are videos & tutorials online, just be aware that some use white which is not allowed in this challenge.

As an example, this watercolour was painted using only Payne's Grey.
