About the Society
Spalding Arts & Crafts Society was started in 1916 & is one of the oldest societies in the country.
In normal times we have a monthly meeting where we have a professional demonstrator. It's a chance to meet like minded people & find out what painting & crafting opportunities there are in the area.
We hold several exhibitions a year including at Ayscoughfee Hall, Spalding Library & Springfields Craft Shows.
We hope to hold more Painting Together sessions in the future.
During lockdown we started a Facebook group for members to keep in touch. We have had
various challenges including Inktober & others.
Earlier this year Springfields Horticultural Society invited us to take part in a Delft style Tile
Painting competition. It was a welcome challenge during the winter lockdown. The tiles are still on display in the Festival Gardens on a large planter near the Summerhouse.
Membership of Spalding Arts & Crafts Society is very reasonable, currently £18/year. This entitles you to reduced entry to our meetings and participation in our various exhibitions & challenges.

Exhibitions

The Society has in the past held annual exhibitions each year at the Geest Gallery in Ayscoughfee Hall, Spalding also regularly at  Spalding Library and Spingfields.

We may also have other exhibitions at other venues during the year and we are pioneering virtual exhibitions to run along side some of our establised exhibitions including exhibitions showing members artwork submitted for society competitions and events.

Presenting Exhibits

A few pointers on preparing your paintings for exhibition . . . .

When exhibiting paintings, the way they are presented is important, so please make sure it is framed to a high standard. When busy it is easy to make a mistake, such as leaving off the fixings or card on the back. For paintings behind glass, use clean mounts, and seal with good quality tape on the back. Also dust over the glass andcheck the tape if the work has been hanging elsewhere. Use double mounts for pastels, and remember to paint edges on a box canvas. Work is devalued if not presented properly, so a little attention to detail can result in a sale - hopefully!
